My Account

If you’re looking for a movie with superhero rescues, intense action scenes and revenge quests, then Netflix’s newest thriller, The Old Guard, is one you won’t want to miss.

Following a group of four immortal regenerative healers (starring Charlize Theron), the story is full of betrayal and twists.

But, my favorite part: it has guns. LOTS of guns.

So, for a totally subjective ranking of the weapons I loved most in this movie (and why), keep scrolling.

1. IMI Tavor TAR-21

What gave this Israeli-made rifle the top place on my list?

Well, to start, it looks amazing — like, straight out of the year 5000, we’re-fighting-aliens-and-space-slugs amazing. When Booker started popping off rounds with the Tavor TAR-21 in a firefight, I nearly jumped off the couch I was so excited.

More realistically, though, I’ve always loved the TAR-21 for its ambidextrous handling, compact build and quick optics mounting.

And don’t even get me started on shooting the thing. Its incorporation of top-notch technology makes it accurate, easy to maneuver and soft-shooting.

2. Heckler & Koch USP

Grabbing the second spot on my list is this incredible HK pistol.

Several times in the film, you catch Andy and Nile with this sleek two-toned beauty.

The international popularity of this gun is no surprise because it’s got a Browning-style cam-locked chamber, dual-spring recoil assembly, and is super soft-shooting considering its light weight.

I like to compare it to the Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm (which would also make my list if it was featured at all in The Old Guard).

3. Beretta 92FS

Another pistol takes the number-three spot.

One of the most distinct handguns in the world with its exposed barrel, there’s no question why the Beretta 92FS is the favored choice of Bruce Willis in Die Hard, Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon and Keanu Reeves in The Matrix.

We see it show up in The Old Guard when our heroes interact with members of the U.S. military.

The 92FS is the carry weapon used by most of our country’s armed forces (though it is steadily being phased out by the SIG M17).

It’s accurate, feels sturdy in your hand, and is very easy to control, making it deadly in action, not just in looks, which is why it will forever be on my top-ten lists every time.

(FYI, if you’re in the market for some sweet Beretta accessories, check out this excellent Safariland holster and Streamlight TLR1.)

4. Heckler & Koch HK416

If Nile stalking her prey with this beast doesn’t send shivers down your spine, you’re braver than me.

An updated version of the classic M16 rifle, the HK416 snags my number-four spot for its free-floating handguard, foldable front sights and short-stroke piston system that makes for a cleaner action.

My favorite part?

It has full-length rails on all four sides, which means tons of accessory options.

5. GLOCK 17

While some may argue the GLOCK 17 isn’t the most glamorous gun out there (I’ll grant it doesn’t look as cool as some of these on my list), it is by far one of the most dependable handguns ever.

Since the GLOCK 17 is the carry weapon of many government agents, we see this simple, but reliable, pistol show up several times throughout the movie — mostly when they’re confiscated by our main characters.

Another reason I added this gun to my list is the simple fact that I own and operate one of these beauties myself, so I’m particularly fond of the way they feel in my hand.

Unlike some of the others above, this GLOCK is very affordably priced and arguably one of the most economic options in its category.
